Requires off gassing before use
These bamboo cutting boards are interesting and come with both good features and a few drawbacks. One of the first things you notice is the handle cutouts on the sides. While the handles do make it easier to lift and carry the boards, the cutouts also reduce the usable cutting surface. If you flip the board over to use the other side, those cutouts still take away some real estate, which is a little unfortunate. The boards also do not include any rubber feet or grip material on the bottom. Because of that, they can slide around on the countertop during use. To use them safely, you will likely need to place a silicone mat or a damp cloth underneath to keep them from moving. The set includes three sizes: small, medium, and large. Having multiple sizes is very useful. The small board is actually one of the most practical because it is lightweight and very easy to wash and place in a dish rack. The bamboo construction keeps the boards fairly light compared with some heavier wood boards.Another positive feature is the liquid groove around the edge. This groove helps catch juices and liquids so they do not spill onto the countertop. That is especially helpful when cutting foods that release a lot of liquid. One issue I noticed right away when opening the package is a noticeable chemical or treated wood smell. It is not clear whether this is from varnish, sealant, or simply off-gassing from the wood itself. Because of that odor, I would not feel comfortable using the boards immediately without letting them air out first. If you are particularly sensitive to smells or concerned about possible chemical treatments on cutting boards, that may be something to consider before purchasing.Overall, the boards are lightweight, practical, and come in useful sizes with helpful liquid grooves. However, the sliding issue and the noticeable odor when first opened are things to be aware of.
